“Sometimes in order to live deeper, I have to get uncomfortable.” How about you?
— Gina Thorne, 2021
We are passionate about showing you how to live deeper through travel.
Who Are We?
We are Stephen and Gina. We love life and we love life together! Married for 29 years we use every opportunity to explore how to live a deeper, more meaningful life individually and together.
In April 2021, after 18 months of lockdown, we decided to sell all our stuff, quit our full time professional careers, at least for a little while, and travel the world.
We found living on $100.00 a day has afforded us the opportunity to meet new people, experience unique parts of the world and learn more about each other! We are always on the hunt for adventure and exploring new ways to expand our horizons, our comfort zones and the breadth of our experiences. And we'd like you to join us!
We invite you to explore the random curiosities of life in search of a deeper experience!
Our Story
“COVID hit and our plans were put on the backburner. We had hoped to fly to Europe but everything was closed. So we waited, and waited and waited.”
Hey there! We are so glad you found us! We are a husband and wife duo who has done some version of slow travel for the last 28 years. We met in college, Stephen purusing his Ph.D. in Geology and Gina with a degree in Health Education.
Over the last 28 years, we lived a fairly traditional life. We raised our son Ethan, moved to 7 different cities in 5 different states. Stephen changed careers a few times and Gina climbed the corporate ladder in marketing. In 2017, we took our first big leap and moved to Colorado, a much discussed dream over the years. Colorado became home to us and we treated it like the playground it is, hiking, camping, snowboarding, biking, and making long-lasting friendships.. basically, experiencing our dream life of living in the mountains.
BUT
In 2017, with Ethan two years away from graduation, we started thinking what our life would be like after he finished high school. I guess you could say we would be empty-nesters. We looked at each other, realized we were in our early 50’s and pretty healthy. Why not downsize our life, make it small, minimize and take a year to travel the world?
Plans were in place and we were uber excited to take this next step. We set out to leave in 2020 after Ethan graduated from high school. I know.. your probably thinking.. “Why would you leave Ethan?” Well, we invited him to come with us, but he opted to stay in Colorado and try life out on his terms.
THEN
COVID hit and our plans were put on the backburner. We had hoped to fly to Europe but everything was closed. So we waited, and waited and waited. Finally in Spring 2021, we decided to adapt our plans and travel domestically and witness the beauty of this great country. So, we sold all our belongings, moved a few things to storage, reoutfitted our travel trailer and hit the road on April 11, 2021.
On July 31, 2021 after 4 months of travel, we visited 18 states in our 20 square foot travel trailer. Nothing says I love you more than tight quarters! We landed in New York, where we met Ethan. His first big adventure was to drive the Jeep and trailer back across the country to Colorado. He mastered it beautifully.
Then on August 1, 2021 Stephen and I boarded our first international flight after two years of no travel and headed to Portugal to start our first big adventure, hiking the last 100km of the Camino de Santiago through Spain.
Today, one year later after taking the leap to step into the unknown, we have travelled to 11 countries, some planned, other not. We biked in the Salt Flats of Cyprus, slept in a Berber tent in the Sahara Desert, watched the sunrise and set over the Mediterranean, experienced the sacred rituals of the Whirling Dervish in Turkey, listened to the daily call to prayer in Morocco, herded cattle in Switzerland and walked through historic castles and Abby’s in Ireland and Scotland, and the list goes on.
We have found that these experiences are worth so much more than any possession we ever had. We have learned more about ourselves individually and together as a couple and we look forward to sharing these new awakenings with you.
Thank you for finding us! We hope you will stay involved. We are currently traveling through Thailand for the next four months. Check us out? Visit our Channel and learn how you can live deeper too!
